Well, less than a century ago Cat, you were not the only one to believe the lady on the bottom was also the
Grand Duchess Anastasia.(Pronounced by her
family as Ona-Sta-see-ya) She is presumed to have been murdered with her family on by forces of the
Bolshevik secret police on July 17, 1918. However,
rumors had persisted of her possible escape since 1918.
A lady was pulled out of a canal (who they later discovered was actually trying to commit suicide.) She wouldn't identify herself at first, but soon said she was the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevena of Russia. Many woman had claimed to be the missing Grand Duchess Anastasia. This lady, who later used the name Anna Anderson was the only one to receive much recognition as the actual Anastasia. She eventually made it to the states with one of Anastasia's relatives and got much publicity in NY and several movies were made of her. It was quite controversial for years if she was really the true Grand Duchess Anastasia. There's an entire wiki article on both Anastasia and Anna Anderson. Which as you continue to read and if you watch History channel shows from years ago, (I found on YouTube) really the name was just a name she used to register into a hotel when another relative Anna lived with, who did believe she was Anastasia, kicked her out of the home because they quarreled a lot. If I understood it correctly while reading, that Anna could've possibly been a missing factory worker. Anastasia's family were close and of very high standing. They were killed not for anything they did, but for what they were born into. Anastasia's father wanted his family to be educated but also enjoy life. They lived in a 1,000 room mansion with maids, nannys and more. I found it interesting that it was Anastasia's father who started WWI. Anastasia, her sisters and mother cared for wounded men in the war. She wrote her father and sweet and kind letter. When her father was asked to step down from his position, they went into captivity, to keep the family safe as one historian put it on an old episode on History Channel. Then in July of 1918, the family were awoke in the middle of the night, told to dress, that this was for their safety. Instead, they were taken to a basement and slaughtered, except for two. The son and one of the sisters. They were held captive for a few days and then burned to death. So in later scientists went to the grave the family was said to have been buried, they found two bodies were missing, and the start of believing Anastasia had escaped as Anna had said could be true in their minds. As of 2007 and 2008, DNA tests have been done, all bodies have been found and Anna Anderson, an actual psychopath, institutionalized in mental hospitals several times, was proven NOT to be the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. Anna ended up marrying at the age of 70 to a man and they lived in VA. He claimed to be a Historian. Well, they lived with many cats and several dogs. Anna died in 1984 but on You Tube a video of the two of them together shows that Anna was a true *%%%%. So knowing how mischievous Anastasia was as a child and into her teenage years, I suppose I can see how some relatives though she was Anastasia but to me, I couldn't help but look at their noses and go, "What!?" : One person had once commented, "I know one thing for certain. Anastasia was not a Polish peasant." Anna spoke only German. Anastasia and her siblings were not taught to speak German. But Anna refused to speak Russian, saying that she wouldn't speak the language that the guards who killed her family spoke. I mean, it's just on and on proof that she wasn't Anastasia. And yet movies were made about her. She got such publicity for being a crazy psychopath trying to get money out of it all. Which, she did get some nice stuff out of it. Free room and board and nice clothes.
